独BMWが、水素とガソリン両方で走る「BMW Hydrogen 7（ビー・エム・ダブリュー・ハイドロジェン・セブン）」の市場投入を、2006年9月12日に発表したそうです。
水素は環境にやさしい燃料として知られており、温室効果ガスの主役たるCO2（二酸化炭素）ゼロ、基本的に副産物は水のみ、石油と違って枯渇しない、など、持続可能性の高い次世代燃料として注目されているそうです。
燃料タンクは、ガソリン74リッター、液体水素約8kgというボリュームで、両方を使った航続距離は約650km。水素供給用のインフラが未整備であっても走行できるというのがポイントだそうですよ（水素のみでは200km以上走る）。
ガソリンが高くなった今、水素と言わず、「水」だけで走ってくれる車を作って欲しいですね！
ちなみにもう有名ですが、来年のパリ・ダカラリーにあの片山 右京さんが、てんぷら油で走るらしいですね！いや〜人間の力ってすごいなって思います・・・・・・本当に・・・
